University top hats will add color to Coimbra’s downtown

The tradition of Coimbra’s academy will bring more color to Rua Adelino Veiga and Largo do Paço do Conde, with the exhibition of 540 university top hats that will be illuminated at night. The project aims to bring “light, joy, color and student life to the Baixa and, at the same time, decorate a historic street in the city of Coimbra in a different way, taking inspiration from similar situations, but with what is typical and characteristic of Coimbra: the students,” says the mayor of Coimbra, José Manuel Silva. The contract was signed today, January 28, at Casa do Bairro, and the success of the project could lead to it being expanded to other streets, with other motifs of student life, the mayor announced.
